COLLABORATIVE 1.0
TEAMS AND TOPICS
The participants of Collaborative 1.0 were divided into 15 different Planner/Artist teams. Each team explored one subject which was drawn from the General Plan. This collaboration entailed dissecting a planning concept through dialog exchange where the planner provided the basic information about the land use planning topic and the artist synthesized it into a piece of art. The planner was encouraged to take an active role in the creation of the piece in order to engage in the creative and crafting processes. An important aspect of creating the works was to use found/leftover materials to symbolically represent the sustainability basic premises: re-use, reduce, recycle.
The California Government Code requires that cities and counties adopt a general plan to guide ensure orderly land use development. Such plan must include seven essential elements: 1) Land Use, 2) Circulation, 3) Housing, 4) Conservation, 5) Open Space, 6) Noise and 7) Safety. Jurisdictions may also choose to address other elements such as Arts and Culture, Education, Healthy Communities, Historic Preservation, etc. to reflect a particular vision and overall community goals. For the purpose of this project, the topics below have been selected from the City and the County of Riverside's General Plan. Additionally, two special topics are being explored by two teams: vision and jobs/housing balance.
