Leora Lutz

Leora Lutz is a Toronto-born artist who grew up in the eastern parts of greater Los Angeles. Her work has shown nationally, from New York to North Dakota - selected for curated and juried shows by leading artists and curators, such as Joan Young, Tyler Stallings, Peter Frank and Kim Abeles.
Her art and professional bibliography includes numerous critiques and profiles from The Los Angeles Times, NBC news, White Hot Magazine and LA Weekly to name a few.
Riverside Art Museum has recently purchased one of her paintings for their Permanent Collection.
Lutz received a BFA with distinction from Cal State Fullerton with additional course study in Humanities.
Her professional experience includes non-profit and civic organizations, such as The L.A. Department of Cultural Affairs and Communications Co-Chair for MOCA Contemporaries.
Over the years she has assisted other artists by curating over 40 exhibitions at private and civic institutions, predominantly from 2003 to 2008 when she owned and directed Gallery Revisited.
In May 2010, she launched a public participatory art initiative called ACTION interSPEAKS, inviting all to engage in the artistic landscape. She currently pursues a full-time independent studio practice.
"The art I make responds to the concepts of place and identity, addressing what people do to exist and the things they take for granted. I am interested in conveying an understanding about the mysteries surrounding the Human Condition. By using the emotional and physical landscapes of Language and Sky, I "write" narratives into tangible objects to create visual conversations.
"I often incorporate miss-matched pairings of genre, from sewing on expressionistic painting to placing my poetry over photographs. This mix of discipline is a way to conceptually translate the fragility of absolutes and question perceptions of truth. Ultimately, I instill visceral response while inviting the viewer to bring along their own personal experience and feeling."
