Art VULUPS is the result of a ten-year compilation of relationships encompassing geography, environmental science, land use planning, sustainability, art and creativity concepts.  During this time, many individuals have contributed with ideas, suggestions and time; they have also helped define the meaning, purpose and scope of this project.  Its realization has  been made possible by a number of institutions , such as the Inland Empire Section of the American Planning Association and the Inlandia Institute.

Curiosity, adventure and careful reflection are the fundamentals providing for the necessary inspiration, momentum and excitement that form the concept of  the Art as a Vehicle to Understand Land Use Planning and Sustainability Project.

VISION

Our guiding light towards excellence in decision making results from the fusion of artistic expression and land use planning concepts. This public art approach will serve as a catalyst for civic dialog engagement and community empowerment.

MISSION

Our mission is to communicate land use planning and sustainability concepts through art and creative expression. This public art process involves a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach involving artists, urban planners, educators and the public.

GOALS

Raise public awareness about the importance of sound planning practices and sustainability by emphasizing the value of creativity, ideas and civic engagement.

Establish a framework for alternative approaches to community outreach and civic engagement based on art and creative expression.

Develop a formal art collection utilizing land use planning and sustainability concepts which will be used as educational tools amongst planning professionals.

Use the project to contribute to the educational goals of the American Planning Association.

Establish a symbiotic relationship between planners and artists towards an open exchange of ideas, inspiration and the expansion of critical thinking in regards to the built environment, community development and quality of life.

Establish a collaborative public art approach which allows planners and artists to work together in the pursuit of sustainable development solutions.
