Matt Burris, AICP, LEED AP

Matthew is a community planner and  Senior Associate at Design, Community and Environment a planning consulting firm.  He has been fascinated with the connection between community design and the environment since he discovered SimCity in the late ‘80s.  To Matthew, "our cities are the perfect platform for environmental performance, social equity, and economic innovation and I have devoted my career to helping communities understand and implement the principles of sustainability".  His planning experience includes preparing climate action plans, community plans, sustainability master plans, development standards green and design guidelines, community outreach and education.  He recently developed and now teaches Sustainable Planning, Design and Development for UC Riverside’s Sustainability and Green Building Certificate program.  Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Barbara, as well as a Master of Science in City and Regional Planning and a Master of Science in Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  He is a registered planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners and a Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional.
